Uganda’s e-commerce sector has seen significant growth in 2026, with mobile payments leading the way as 62% of users prefer mobile transactions. Despite improvements, the checkout conversion rate remains modest at 3.8%, partly due to UX challenges and high cart abandonment rates of 65%. Retailers are investing in streamlined checkout processes to enhance user experience and reduce drop-offs.
The focus on optimizing checkout UX is crucial for Uganda’s digital commerce expansion. Improved interface design, faster payment options, and targeted marketing can boost conversion rates and average order value, which currently stands at around 45 USD. As mobile and digital literacy improve, more Ugandans are expected to complete transactions seamlessly, further fueling economic growth.
