Botswana’s cybersecurity workforce has grown significantly, with 12,500 professionals securing the nation’s digital infrastructure in 2026. The country’s cybersecurity budget has increased to USD 85 million, reflecting its commitment to digital safety. Despite this progress, 320 cyber incidents were reported this year, highlighting ongoing threats. Most organizations (68%) have adopted cybersecurity measures, yet rapid response times remain a challenge, averaging 2.5 hours to contain incidents.
The rise in cybersecurity professionals and investments demonstrates Botswana’s strategic focus on digital security. Continued efforts to bolster cyber defenses are essential to reduce data breaches and improve incident response. As digital adoption accelerates, especially in banking and government services, maintaining resilience against cyber threats will be crucial for Botswana’s economic growth and trust in digital services.
